Student Library Books are Due

The school library has stopped checking out books for the year, and all outstanding library books need to be turned in. Please help your child find any missing library books. Remember, they may be in the car, under the bed, on the patio, or even in your home bookshelf. If you are not able to find a missing book, please contact our librarian Ms. Crowe at [email protected] to arrange for the book to be replaced.

Medication cannot be sent home with your student.

If your student will be enrolled in a summer program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools, the existing medication authorization form(s) may be used for the summer program, but you will need to pick up the medication on the last day of school and deliver the medication and completed forms to the summer learning site on the first day of the summer program. Please let the health room know if you would like a copy of the form(s).

School Board Votes to Adopt Fiscal Year 2025 Approved Budget

The Fairfax County School Board voted to adopt Fairfax County Public Schools’ (FCPS) Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Approved Budget at their last board meeting. The FY 2025 Approved Budget totals $3.7 billion — a net increase of $233.2 million or 6.6% over the previous year.

The FY 2025 Approved Budget focuses on providing educational excellence for all students and ensuring that employees’ hard work and dedication are acknowledged through competitive compensation. Both of these efforts fully align with the FCPS 2023-30 Strategic Plan.

Nearly 86% of the Approved Budget is targeted at instruction. Key budget highlights include funding for a 4% compensation increase for all employees; maintaining existing class size formulas and providing necessary support to all students; and expanding athletics offerings, additional athletic trainers, and enhanced stipends for fine and performing arts.

📈 New SOL Growth Reports for Grade 3-8 Tests

Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) test results, along with other student data, help demonstrate in which subjects or topics students may need additional academic support.

In order to help interpret SOL results for parents, the Virginia Department of Education has released new Standards of Learning Growth Parent Reports for families of students who took grade 3-8 SOL math and reading tests this spring.

The Growth Parent Report ties together scores from fall and winter Virginia Growth Assessments (VGA) with the student’s current spring SOL results to show their trend in academic progress this year.

Learn how to understand your student’s grade 3-8 SOL results and find resources to support their ongoing learning.Support Your Child’s Success in SIS ParentVUE Signing up for a SIS ParentVUE account helps you to support your child’s academic success. Caregivers can view important information in ParentVUE such as attendance, grades, progress reports, and assessment scores.

Once you have activated a ParentVUE account for an FCPS student, you will keep the same account until the student graduates. Information about students in the same family can be accessed through the same ParentVUE account. A SIS ParentVUE app is available for Apple and Android devices.

Need help creating a SIS ParentVUE account? This video explains the steps. Find out more. To create a new account, please contact Alyssa Nair for an activation letter.

Weyanoke's principals presented to rising Kindergartners this week and talked about the importance of sleep habits, healthy foods, and making attendance a priority. To prepare students for school, talk to your children about how to prepare for school and the benefits of establishing routines for bedtime, waking up, and showing up for class. Advice was given to schedule medical and other appointments early in the morning or close to dismissal so that the student can attend class and participate in instruction for part of the day.

AAP Subject-Specific and Part-Time Services Spring Screening

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) is committed to challenging all students through talent development and differentiated instruction to meet the needs of advanced learners.

Students can be screened for subject specific and part time AAP services at any time in the school year. In the spring, schools review data on all students to determine services for the start of the next school year.  Parents are notified in early June if their student has been found eligible for services.

Screening Process for Subject Specific (Level II) and Part-Time (Level III) Services

Multiple criteria are reviewed holistically to determine eligibility for all FCPS advanced academic services. Committees consider student work from opportunities with AAP lessons, examples of student reasoning or gifted behaviors from class discussions and activities, progress reports, achievement and ability scores, and parent or guardian input. Committees consider whether students have access to a group of students with similar academic needs to support academic conversations and growth in the classroom.

National Library Week

April is School Library Month and it's a great time to celebrate the essential role that school librarians play in the lives of students.

At Weyanoke, Ms. Crowe and Ms. Mills have created a welcoming, friendly environment. The library collection includes books on endless topics in many languages, and there is truly something for everyone to enjoy.

School librarians ensure students have access to a wide variety of high-quality books and resources that connect them to the world and build a culture of literacy. Librarians develop lessons that are meaningful to students and help them develop critical thinking, inquiry, and information literacy skills. They support learning across all subject areas by teaching students the skills to be independent problem-solvers and creative thinkers. By creating a safe environment for all students to be engaged and curious learners, FCPS libraries are places where everyone belongs.

Take a moment to learn more about FCPS Library Programs and share your appreciation of your school librarian!

Book Fair Volunteers Needed

We’re excited to announce that our school will be hosting a Buy-One-Get-One Free (BOGO) Scholastic Book Fair, which will take place from Monday, April 22 to Friday, April 26, 2024, in the Library.  A community shopping event is scheduled for Thursday evening, April 25 between 4 – 7 p.m.

The Scholastic Book Fair helps our students choose books they love, and with so many choices, they’re sure to find themselves in the pages. This year’s BOGO Fair is going to be epic, but we need volunteers to make it happen.

If you’re available to help at the Book Fair, please complete the form.
